White Island is very much an Island of fire & steam located fifty kilometres north of Whakatane in the deep blue Pacific Ocean. Known by Maori as Whakaari meaning in english a display or spectacular view. White Island was given it’s English name by Captain James Cook, who first saw it’s white steam in 1769.
